Lockhart Septic Inspector
I meant to say TIRE recycling in my blog title, but since I have your attention lets go with it. Tire recycling is a responsible alternative to traditional drain field materials. Many septic system drain fields are constructed with perforated pipe laid in a gravel bed. Some more modern system use a chamber drain field. Tires are now being used in a multitude of ways. One way is similar to gravel using ground up tires. Second is lining whole tires up making a long cylindrical tube type structure to the be buried. I dont think this passes most of our jurisdictions.
Tire chips are another substitute for stone aggregate. Recyclers grind up used tires into “chips” that are laid in the bed as an aggregate material.
