PREPARING YOUR HOME FOR A HARD FREEZE

Central Texas residents should wrap all exterior pipes to prepare your home against leaky pipes and expensive repairs. When freeze warning is issued, it’s a good idea to secure your home for freezing temperatures.

Here are two simple tips you can use:

  1. Check all hose bibs. Disconnect and drain water hoses to prevent cracks. Put a protective cover on your outside faucet. You can buy inexpensive insulated sleeves or covers at hardware stores or make your own DIY faucet cover like this.
  2. If the temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, drip your indoor faucets. Sometimes you’ll want to drip both the hot and cold water lines to your kitchen sink just to be sure.
